APP CRITIQUES
This
week I decided to be a critic for the door dash app. This app has increasingly
become more popular since its introduction to the app world because of it ease
to get food delivered rather than going out and picking up your food orders
yourself. Even though you might pay a bit more than you would if you had
ordered through a phone line and picked it up, it offers me the chance to just
stay where I am and have the restaurant orders come to me. I enjoy many things
on the app but firstly I enjoy the usability from all the available food
sources having a picture of a meal from their menu to easily navigating the
menu through the various categories it offers. There is also a neat feature at
the top that allows one to see what is trending which could include new places
that have opened which one might not be aware of yet and offers a substantial
review and rating for some of the food choices in the area. I also love that
you could cater to how much you are willing to pay by using a “price” drop down
menu. Along with that drop down menu you can also filter by ratings, discount
offers, and the amount of time it would take to be delivered. The design has
few colors, but it works for the app because it makes it simplistic and not
distracting. It also provides a dark mode for the app which helps me not strain
my eyes as much as other ones.
One
thing I would add to the app would be the availability to look at restaurant
choices outside of the timeframe you are searching for one. For example, if I
was up at nine o’clock in the morning and was wondering what I would like to
have for dinner the app would immediately only show me what was open at the
time I was searching for it. I’ve done this and I only see breakfast and brunch
options in the area when I would like to broaden it to the availabilities
later. Another aspect I feel many people don’t like about most apps is the
constant advertisements. Not only are there advertisements for new places to
try, but there are also consistent ads trying to get you to apply for credit
cards to get a discount.
